Resting Place: Finding Comfort in the Presence of the Heavenly Father

I had a deeply reflective experience that reminded me of the quiet impact each of us makes every single day.

I found myself thinking about my time as a Program Supervisor/Case Manager, working with young adults. Many came from “at-risk” backgrounds, including transitional housing. Our role was to help them find employment and educational opportunities, but often the needs ran far deeper.

One young man especially came to mind. He lost his mother at the age of 12 and began dealing drugs to support his younger sister. I did my best to encourage the gifts I could see in him, yet the weight of his loss and responsibility was always visible.

While driving the young men to job sites, they would ask me to play Dietrick Haddon’s song “Resting Place” again and again. One day, this same young man opened up and told me he had no one to talk to.

Moments like that stay with you.

What he needed most — even beyond guidance or support — was a divine connection to our Heavenly Father.

Jesus shows us the perfect example of where to turn in our deepest need. He continually sought His Abba, His Father, setting aside time to abide in His presence. If Jesus needed that communion, how much more do we?

Interestingly, I couldn’t remember the name of the song I used to play for them. Then the very next day, my office assistant began playing it — a song I hadn’t heard in years.

A true God moment.

My prayer is that those young men, and every person I am privileged to encounter, will experience the love of God and discover Him as their resting place.

Please join me in praying specifically for our youth as they navigate the complexities of this life.

And for ourselves as well — that whatever burdens we carry, we would lay them at the feet of Jesus.

Matthew 11:28 (NIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

- Resting Place - Dietrick Haddon
